Our review
Tulum was a Maya port city, and its ruins sit on limestone cliffs looking straight out over turquoise water. The best-known building, El Castillo, stands on the cliff edge above a small beach.
The site is compact and can be seen in a couple of hours, which makes it an easy half-day trip from Playa del Carmen or the Tulum hotel zone.
