Hotel Overview

The Taj Mahal Palace opened in 1903 on the Colaba waterfront and is still the most famous hotel in India. Its red-domed Palace wing faces the Gateway of India and the harbour; the modern Taj Mahal Tower next door, added in the 1970s, is booked as a separate hotel.

The Palace wing has 285 rooms and suites (243 rooms and 42 suites). Rooms come with city, pool or sea views, and the sea-view categories look straight out at the Gateway of India. Interiors mix the hotel's art collection, antique furniture and the famous cantilevered staircase.

Dining and drinks are part of the experience: Sea Lounge for afternoon tea over the harbour, the Harbour Bar, which holds Mumbai's first bar licence, and several restaurants including Wasabi and Golden Dragon. There is a Jiva spa and an outdoor pool in the courtyard.
