Hotel Overview
The Dwarika's Hotel grew out of one man's rescue project: Dwarika Das Shrestha began collecting carved windows, doors and pillars from old Kathmandu Valley buildings that were being torn down, and the hotel, opened in 1977, was built around them. Craftsmen still restore carvings on site.
The result feels like a small Newari town of courtyards, brick buildings and carved timber. The 86 rooms are individually furnished with local textiles and antiques; Heritage Deluxe rooms are about 45 m² and sleep up to three.
Krishnarpan, the hotel's restaurant, serves a Nepali ceremonial tasting menu of up to 22 courses and is one of the most famous meals in Kathmandu. There is also a spa and an outdoor pool.
