Our review
The Grand Palace complex was the official residence of the Kings of Siam from 1782, and its walled compound on the Chao Phraya riverbank is still used for state ceremonies. Inside you walk through courtyards of gilded spires, guardian statues and mural-lined galleries.
The highlight is Wat Phra Kaew, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Thailand's most sacred temple. Plan at least two hours, then walk ten minutes south to Wat Pho and its reclining Buddha, and take the short cross-river ferry to Wat Arun.
“Bangkok's riverside legend since 1876: 331 rooms and suites on the Chao Phraya, the Authors' Lounge, The Oriental Spa and a hotel boat across the river.”
