Hotel Overview

Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok traces its history to 1876, when the first Oriental Hotel opened on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. The original building survives as the Authors' Wing, named after writers who stayed here, including Joseph Conrad and Somerset Maugham, and it is still the heart of the hotel.

The 331 rooms and suites are in three buildings, and almost all look over the river. Rooms are individually decorated with Thai silks and teak; the Authors' Suites in the original wing are the most sought after.

The hotel runs its own boats across the river to The Oriental Spa, the Thai cooking school and Sala Rim Naam. Restaurants include Le Normandie for French fine dining, and afternoon tea in the Authors' Lounge is a Bangkok tradition. There are two outdoor pools by the river.
